I have a thought on fan fictions. I realize that my thought my be offending to many but these are my thoughts and I thought I'd share. You may disagree with me if you wish. That is your right.
I believe a fan fiction should be in story format. Not script. Scripts are for movies. Not for pleasure reading. It's jarring to read scripts I have this tendency to try and picture what is going on visually in a script. I've read my fair share I own several real Hollywood scripts. I know what a script should look like.
When I read story I want a story. Not lines.
But that is just me.
Thoughts?

I agree with parts of that. But if a fanfic (like mine) is in script format, and you don't like it, then just dont read it. I know that sounds kind of harsh and that it'd be nice to read an actual "story" or whatever, but you cant control what people write.
I've written a couple of other stories that don't take the script from the thing Ive been writing about.
But in my opinion when your adding more characters and a more complex story line to, lets say a two hour movie, until you get to the part where things start to change, its easier to keep it in a script formation.
Thank You for Sharing your thoughts<3

Thats why its called fan fiction. You can use any characters you want, create new ones, totally twist stories around, and write it in any format, script or "story", because you want to. If people dont like the way you write it, then they dont have to read it, simple as that. And I agree that if there are quite a few characters it does make it easier to do it in script instead of a story format because it makes it easier on both the reader and the writer when it comes to knowing who said what. With most of the fan fiction I write, I end up having to go back through a chapter just to find out who said what if there are more than two characters in that chapter.

The only problem I have with some of the fan fics I read are that people dont seem to take the time to check their spelling and there are alot of words that aren't spelled correctly. Another thing I cant stand is when some one writes something and then later on seems to forget what they wrote and does something that completely screws the story up. I've seen a few stories like that every now and then.

Fanfic can be in any format, it's up to the writer's creativity and imagination. As a writer myself (I have yet to write anything Steven or Steven-character related) you can go just about anywhere with it. I personally prefer the more original works, but that's the beauty of fan works...*anything* can work. For most people, when they start reading a piece of fiction they know right away if it's something they'll be able to tolerate reading (i.e. script form, bad spelling, brand new characters, etc.) so if they can they read on and if not, move on to another. I've personally read both types and they both have their places.
Intriguing thread!!!

Yes it is. Which is why I brought it up. I believe that stories should be the way they are in books. But its my thought on that. No one has to agree with me. I don't expect agreement.
I am glad to hear everyone's thoughts on it.
As soon as they are edited properly I will have fan fictions for you all to read. Set in Sky High and set in The Covenant. I hope you all will enjoy them when I post them.
I will do my best to read the stories you post. though if its script formate. I'm sorry but I just cannot read it. Preference thing yes it is. I am sure it would be wonderful and great but still a script. And when I see script I picture actors and directors and film-making. Not pleasure reading.
Take care all of you. Thank you for your thoughts on this manner. Thank you for not getting all angry fan girl too. Its refreshing to see such dialog.
Live in honor.
Blessed be.

I love threads with depth, and you started a very good one, Arashi. I look forward to reading your fics 'Sky High' has been on t.v. so much lately, so Warren Peace has sure been first and foremost in my mind. *sigh*

I'[m actually contemplating a Warren fic at the moment, i think I'll post it here first. Ellie is right, whenever I start reading a fanfic I can see immediately whether I will like it or not, to me it's not so much as the story direction and which characters hook up but rather the style of writing the writer employs, good style means readable fic for me.

I have 3 major turn-offs when it comes to fanfics: #1- Terrible dialog. Cheesy and uncharacteristic...bugs me to death!! #2- Bad grammar, writing, overly-abundant misspellings, etc. I'm a language arts & English fanatic, so that grates on me after too long. #3- A character coupling I just can't stand or invision by any stretch of the imagination. I can't help it, I have my favs That's a huge draw for me. However, I'll give any fanfic a chance. My 3s are simply the major things that will cause me to run screaming from any fan writing.

I've never seen a fanfic in script format...I always try and write "said Blah" after (or before, or during) the dialogue. I try to think from a reader's point of view too. I mean, I always think: "Would I read this?" or "Would I know who said that?" That's the best part of reading a lot of fanfics before you start to write one. You know what you'd like, and you get good ideas on how to format your story to a point where it's nice and easy to read.

I've seen a couple in script format, but its been awhile since I've read them. Most of what I see now is first person point of views which are always fun to read, but hard to write especially if you are doing a first person point of view for all of the main characters.

For me when i write a fan fic i just write whatever comes to mine. But yea, a fan fic is hard to write it's like almost writing a report or something. But it's fun and its from your imagination and creative thinking. When i write i brain storm, it takes me at least 2 days to think of what's going to happen next. When i type my fan fic it's very difficult for me to put it in a story and not a scene. I also make sure i don't mispell any words at all. If i do...oops i edit my fanfic. I like adding characters to my fan fic and adding something interesting and mysterious. That's how i do it. I try to make it has interesting and fun to read as i go along writing the story.

Fan fiction should draw you in. The characters should be likable. Especial any OCs that the author introduces into the story lines. Not all OCs are Mary sues or Stues for that matter. But there is quite a bit of that running around. that and if you break up a canon couple, give it good thought not just because you don't like the couple. That annoys me too. Makes it harder to read for I have my fave couples. Also when I can see they are not keeping the relationships real. That drives me buggers too. Well enough from me. Take care all. Live in honor. Blessed be.

I agree with bits and pieces of comments!
Mine is sortof like a screenplay...NO script I don't think...I OVERUSE the words "Then" "Also" etc...BUT hey! That's what creative writing class is for!
Very good points are being made here!! = ]]
